Easy and quick neck warmer // Cuello tejido fácil y rápido

Can you believe we're already onto the second half of 2025?! The last few months seem to have flown by. High season in Casa California ended with Max turning 2 and starting day care in April. In May we took our first vacation in years and went to Rio de Janeiro for 12 days. As an early 44th birthday present to myself, I cut my hair -which was down to the top of my hips- with Gue Oliveira, the famous Brazilian hairdresser/coach. We talked for three hours about life and at the end I left a large donation to Cabelegria, a foundation that gives wigs to children that need them.

With Max in school + low season I've had a few hours a day to myself. I've slowly begun exercising and checking things off my never-ending personal to-do list. I've prioritized making as much as possible -I'm finally knitting again!- but have neglected sharing the journey. I guess performative creativity took a backseat so I could maximize the creative process.

So now winter is here and it hit Chile with some of the coldest temperatures in years! It's chilly in Chile! I wanted to prep for Max refusing to wear appropriate layers (he hates anything that prevents him from moving freely) so I made a cozy neck warmer a few weeks ago. Then made another 14 to give to the babies at a foster home near us. If it works for Max I know it'll work for other little ones and I wanted to send these babies I'll never meet some cozy knitted love. Then I decided to film a tutorial for it and I did it!

This neck warmer can be made in any size in a few hours! It's an easy and short project perfect for de-stashing or recycling yarn. I thought it could be good for folks going through hot summers in the north who might not feel too inspired to knit or those braving the cold in the south for a fast warm piece you can use right away. Or, for those of you that need a short and quick project while you choose your next big one. The tutorial is beginner-friendly, short and sweet, perfect for practicing new skills like using double pointed needles. I hope you find it useful!

¿Pueden creer que ya estamos en la segunda mitad de 2025? Los últimos meses se han pasado volando. La temporada alta de Casa California terminó con Max cumpliendo 2 años en abril. En mayo tomamos nuestras primeras vacaciones en años y nos fuimos a Rio de Janeiro por 12 días. Me hice un regalo de cumpleaños número 44 por adelantado y fui a cortarme el pelo (que ya empezaba a llegarme a la cadera) con Gue Oliveira, la famosa estilista/coach brasileña. Conversamos de la vida varias horas y al final dejé una donación larga para Cabelegria, una fundación que dona pelucas a peques que las necesitan.

Con Max en el jardín y ya en temporada baja, he podido tener algunas horas diarias para mí misma. He vuelto a hacer ejercicio más consistentemente y sacar cosas de mi eterna lista "por hacer". He podido priorizar el hacer creativo (¡por fin estoy tejiendo nuevamente!) pero he dejado de lado compartir el camino. En otras palabras, la creación performativa ha tenido que esperar para poder maximizar el proceso creativo mismo.

Ahora estamos en pleno invierno en Chile con las temperaturas más bajas registradas en años. Me quise adelantar a que Max rehusara usar capas para el frío (odia cualquier cosa que le impida moverse libremente) así que le hice un cuello calentito hace unas semanas. Luego se me ocurrió hacer otros 14 para un hogar de peques por acá cerca. Pensé que si el cuello es bueno para Max, seguramente será bueno para otros peques y quise entregarles a estos chicos que no conozco un poquito de amor tejido. Entonces se me ocurrió filmar el proceso y al fin me puse las pilas para hacerlo.

Este cuello puede hacerse en cualquier talla y en pocas horas. Es un proyecto fácil y rápido, perfecto para deshacerse de restos lanas guardadas o para reciclar. Pensé que sería bueno para aquellos que están pasando calor en el norte y que, por lo mismo, pueden no sentirse muy inspirados para tejer o para aquellos enfrentando el frío y que quieran hacer algo calentito que puedan usar de inmediato, o simplemente, para aquellos que quieran tejer algo rápido mientras deciden qué otro gran proyecto empezarán. El tutorial es amigable para principiantes y cortito, perfecto para practicar nuevas habilidades como el tejido con palillos de doble punta.¡Espero que lo encuentres útil!
