Hi and thank you for stopping by! My name is Cata Atria and I run Alicanta Knits. I am a self-taught knitter and designer from Chile.
My knitting journey began as a child, watching the women in my family knit. My Mamma (Paternal grandma) and my older sister taught me how to do garter stitch. I knitted squares and scarves until college when I improvised my first custom sweater for my now husband.
I draw inspiration from anything and everything around me: words, colors, landscapes, textures, travel, art, people and their cultures, and my own heritage and life story... My patterns are simple yet interesting, thought for beginner or intermediate knitters who want to expand their skills and learn new techniques and tricks. I write in both English and Spanish.

¡Hola y gracias por pasar por aquí! Me llamo Cata Atria y soy la mujer detrás de Alicanta Knits. Soy una tejedora y diseñadora autodidacta en Chile.
Mi interés por el tejido comenzó de niña, viendo tejer a las mujeres de mi familia. La Mama (mi abuela paterna) y mi hermana mayor me enseñaron el punto correteado. Tejí cuadrados y bufandas hasta que entré a la universidad e improvisé mi primer sweater como regalo para quien es hoy mi marido.
Me inspira de todo un poco: las palabras, los colores, los paisajes, las texturas, los viajes, el arte, la gente y sus culturas, mi propia historia y herencia... Mis patrones son simples pero interesantes, pensados para principiantes y no tan principiantes que quieran aumentar sus habilidades y aprender nuevas técnicas y trucos de tejido. Escribo en inglés y castellano.
